Description

Savory mini beef pies with thyme and a golden egg wash.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups shortcrust pastry
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400?F (200?C).
  2. Roll out the shortcrust pastry on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick and cut circles to line your pie tins.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, saut? the onion and garlic until tender.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned.
  5. Stir in the beef broth and dried thyme and simmer until the mixture has thickened.
  6. Fill each pastry-lined tin with the meat mixture and top with another pastry circle, then crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
  7. Brush the tops with the beaten egg to achieve a golden finish.
  8. Place the pies on a baking sheet and bake for 25?30 minutes or until golden brown.
